The Shiripuno Community welcomes tourist daily to come learn about the Quichua culture, agricultural practices and the environment. Tourism is promoted within the community as a way to create income for the health and well being of it's people. It is also a way to preserve the knowledge of and to continue the Quichua culture and their ancient traditions in the face of globalization. Ancient Quichua practices have tremendous value in many ways, one of which is their example of how indigenous people can live in harmony with nature.
The Shiripuno community consists of 161 inhabitants who have worked together to create the community and the tourism site.

The women have created the Amukishmi Association which was legalized in February 22, 2005. The men of the community have professionalized themselves into the field of tourism.
The women of Amukishmi gather together daily creating crafts and preparing natural medicines which they sell in the artisan market located in their touristic site. The women also educate tourists, grow and prepare food and perform traditional dances for the tourists who come daily to Shiripuno. Money from their efforts go directly to the community for education, health care and to better the living conditions for all.
