Alli Sumak Kausay Foundation(Improving the Quality of Life) was founded by Teo and his wife Amelia Rivadeneyra Leman. Kausay is Quichua for "quality of life". This name was chosen because it takes into account both the rights of humans and of the environment in which they live. The Foundation's goal is to assist communities in developing projects which improves their quality of life. This standard of "quality of life" does not reject modernity but favors well-being through education, access to health services and respect for cultural identity. The foundation inscribes it's action within a local developmental framework: ecological, sustainable, and supportive. It is intended to respect the people, their autonomy and their independence.
The Alli Sumak Kausay Foundation supports the community by helping to build and through fundraising. It helps them to develop ecological, sustainable structures and projects. The aim is to develop projects that improve the lives of the people and creates projects which they can manage themselves.
A current project of the Foundation is to create a cacao factory. The construction of a factory in Shiripuno would greatly benefit their self reliance. At the moment the cacao which is grown in Shiripuno is sold to factories in Quito and Tena where it is processed and exported where the majority of the profit goes to others. If Shiripuno were to have it's own factory they would be able to take part in the production of chocolate from beginning to end and keep profits within their community. The machines that are required to create this factory are expensive and it is a challenge for the community to raise the money needed. At present they are looking at borrowing money which would put them into debt for many years before making any profit. A very detailed project description (in Spanish and French) has been made detailing the costs for anyone interested in supporting this project. The actualization and the running of a business such as this will empower the community very much for it's own sustainability. If you would like to know more about what is needed to make this dream a reality and to assist in financing it's manifestation ... please contact us.

Do you feel inspired to donate materials or to give to the Alli Sumak Kausay Foundation?
